I recently had the incredible opportunity to attend Automechanika Shanghai 2023, and I can’t wait to share my impressions with you. Automechanika has always been a barometer for the automotive aftermarket, and this year’s event in Shanghai did not disappoint.

In my previous visit in 2019, I witnessed the beginning of a transformation in the Chinese aftermarket industry. Returning after four years, it was fascinating to see the rapid strides and innovations that have taken place. Thanks to an invitation from Automechanika, my goal was to showcase the developments in the European market over the same period.

Shanghai: A Glimpse into the Future

The moment you step into Shanghai, the city feels like a model of the future. The contrast between the old world and modernity is palpable. Navigating without essential apps and relying on cash might make you feel a bit old-fashioned, but the efficiency of transportation quickly erases any doubts.

I decided to embark on a mini-adventure by taking the Maglev train followed by a metro ride. However, the “adventure” turned out to be well-organized and streamlined. The trains ran every 90 seconds, and the entire journey was a testament to the city’s commitment to modern transportation.

Of course, no journey is without its challenges. Navigating through a Google-dominated app landscape proved tricky, especially when Google Maps misdirected me. This hiccup led to an unexpected taxi ride that circled the block, costing me more than anticipated.
