Amazon: two businesses under one name
W&N measures Amazon car parts sales in the European market — focused on Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and France (together a good nine euros in ten), plus Spain and further countries. The figure shown is gross merchandise value (GMV), i.e. marketplace sales including tax. Amazon is not a single marketplace: the third-party business (3P) is comparable to eBay, while the retail business (1P) is Amazon trading on its own account. Together they make up the total parts volume running through Amazon.
Amazon: 3P and 1P — two figures, not one
Car parts worth €4.53bn (GMV) were sold through Amazon in the European market in 2025 — focused on Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and France, which together account for a good nine euros in ten. Behind that stand two fundamentally different businesses: the third-party marketplace (3P) and Amazon’s own retail business (1P). Only the 3P business is comparable with eBay — the retail business adds to the Amazon volume but is Amazon trading on its own account.

3P — the marketplace
Under “third party” (3P), independent dealers sell via the Amazon marketplace; Amazon provides the platform, fulfilment and payment processing but is not the seller. The value reported is the merchandise volume transacted through these dealers. Structurally this is the measure comparable with eBay: many suppliers on one platform.
1P — Amazon’s own retail
Under “first party” (1P), Amazon buys the goods from manufacturers and distributors and resells them as a dealer in its own right (vendor model). Here Amazon itself is the seller; the value is Amazon’s own trading turnover in car parts. This business has no counterpart at eBay.
Amazon 3P, 1P and eBay compared
gross merchandise value (GMV) 2025 · shares within the three largest marketplace channels
The two Amazon values can be added together to give the total Amazon parts volume (€4.53bn). For the comparison with eBay, however, only the third-party business counts: 3P is the genuine marketplace business and therefore the measure comparable with eBay (€3.97bn). The retail business (1P) is Amazon’s own trade and a different category.

Where the figures come from
The Amazon values stem from the market model “E-Commerce Total Market” and show the gross merchandise value (GMV) of the Amazon channel — marketplace sales including tax, separated into third-party business (3P) and Amazon’s own retail business (1P). The channel covers European Amazon trade in car parts; Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and France account for around 91%, with Spain and a longtail of further countries in addition.
What the figures are not
- GMV is marketplace sales including tax, not a dealer’s net sales. In the market model it is derived from net sales via a market factor — hence a modelled figure, not one measured individually.
- For the comparison with eBay, only the 3P business counts — the genuine marketplace business. The retail business (1P) is Amazon’s own trade and a different category. Both values can be added to give the total Amazon parts volume.
- A dedicated Amazon analysis covering exactly the four core markets DE/UK/FR/IT reports €4.49bn for 2025; the channel figure shown here stands at €4.53bn because it additionally contains Spain and further countries.
- All figures refer to car parts and accessories, not to vehicles.
