Now available – the current and comprehensive sector study on the classic car market in Germany

In cooperation with leading automotive associations – VDA, VDIK, ZDK – as well as numerous other partners, the Classic Car Study was presented in June 2025 at the Frankfurt Trade Fair.

It provides reliable, detailed data and well-founded insights into the market structure, development, and economic significance of historic vehicles in Germany.

Key Findings of the Study:

  • Positive Perception: Classic cars continue to enjoy high esteem among the public and have significant economic relevance.
  • Economic Impact: On average, classic car owners invest around €0.90 per kilometre driven – solely for maintenance, excluding taxes and insurance.
  • Environmental Aspect: Classic cars account for only 0.6% of all kilometres driven in Germany – resulting in minimal environmental impact.
  • Market Development: Despite slightly slowed growth with currently around 1.45 million registered classic cars (≥ 30 years), the industry remains optimistic: over the next 5 to 7 years, a stable market with increasing interest in more affordable volume models is expected.
  • Demographic Shift: The scene is getting younger – increasing interest from younger target groups in vehicles from the 1990s and 2000s.
  • Challenges: Shortages in spare parts supply and skilled labour require structural adjustments. In particular, succession planning and knowledge transfer within businesses must be actively addressed.
